August 21, 2021 (Established 2017)
No pre-registration. Just pay $20 cash at the event. For participants: a rest stop every 10 miles and a catered meal around lunch time.
All proceeds benefit Ozarks Food Harvest!
Our sponsors contribute money and services to the event and help to make it even better.
All riders must complete a waiver before riding. You can save time and do it online. This does not commit you to riding. If you don't want to do it online we will have waivers you can fill out at the check in table.
Bicycle Outlet for donating their time and some basic supplies to provide some mechanical support at the starting line.
Fry Properties donates the food for the rest stops and the catered meal. Yes, 2frys.bike is run by the same folks at Fry Properties. But, the rides are about cycling, not real estate. We'd be honored to help if you, or someone you know, needs a Realtor. We know a couple of pretty good ones...
Rider support during the ride out on the route is covered by some friends and family that are willing to drive the route to check on our cyclists, to help them with on the spot maintenance, or to even pick them up and take them to the finish line.
Several of our local friends help during registration, at the rest stop, setting up the lunch during normal years and more!
Each route is marked with its 2 character code: C1, C2, etc.. However, when all routes make the same turn it will be marked with just C or CC. We try to mark each turn about 1/4 of a mile in advance, and then at the turn, and then after the turn so that you can verify you're on the right course. Exceptions would be when there are roads between 1/4 mile and the turn.
Maps & Cue Sheets are below in the white box.
There is only one rest stop that you will use after each 10 mile route since you'll be back to the church every 10 miles: First Christian Church, 443 N Main St, Republic, MO
During normal years, a catered lunch is available during lunch time. In pandemic years, we'll give you a gift certicate you can use anytime!
Q: Where do I pre-register?
A: You don't. We keep it simple and you sign up and pay at the ride.
Q: Can I leave earlier than the scheduled ride time?
A: Yes, the routes are marked. The rest stop may not be open when you ride by...
Q: Can I ride a different route?
A: Yes, but we may not be able to provide support if you're off route.
Q: Is there a t-shirt or other swag?
A: Probably not. We are trying to keep this simple and affordable. In 2021 we are offering an embroidered patch to the first 300 paid riders! T-shirts will also be for sale on a first come first served basis.
Q: Can I show up and ride for free?
A: Yes. The roads are free and open. Please don't use our rest stop, call for rider support, or expect a meal though. Please consider that this is a very affordable ride and 100% of your entry fee goes to help feed our hungry neighbors.
Q: I don't have a way to download the route. Will I get lost?
A: Maybe. The route will be marked on the roads, but it is possible to accidentally miss the markings and go off route. Try to find someone willing to stick with you during the ride that has the route loaded. If that can't be done, or they drop you, then use your smart phone GPS and plot a course for familiar territory.
Q: Will you all try to use my information to send me real estate information?
A: No. This is about riding bikes and helping a good cause.
Q: Will you have a presentation to try to convince me that I should use you for my real estate needs?
A: No. This is about riding bikes and helping a good cause.
Q: Why is it called The Can Can Ride?
A: Well... Some food is canned? Because you can do this? Because you shake your can can when you pedal?
Q: Am I supposed to bring a food donation?
A: Please don't. Ozarks Food Harvest turns $1 into 4 meals. It's harder for you to bring canned goods to the ride. We just want your cash! 😊
Q: Can I donate more to the charity?
A: Yes! Please do! We'll make sure it gets to Ozarks Food Harvest! Thanks for asking!
Q: I don't/can't ride. Can I help?
A: Yes! Email us at t@2frys.com or r@2frys.com or text/call us at 417-234-7350 or 417-889-3558 or Facebook Messenger us.
Q: Will there be social distancing?
A: You're all adults. Respect each other's space if they ask you to. Typically on a bike ride we are pretty well spaced apart.
Q: What about masks?
A: They are not required. If you want to wear one please do. If you don't want to wear one then don't. Please respect those who believe differently.
Q: Can I donate and not ride?
A: Yes!
Q: Where does the event start?
A: First Christian Church, 443 N Main, Republic MO
Q: Who do I call if I'm on the route and need help?
A: Randy - 417 889 3558, if he doesn't answer you can leave a message or text. He might be helping another cyclist when you call.
Q: Where can I park?
A: There is limited parking at the church. If that is full then park nearby at First Baptist Church (about a block south) and ride your bike to the church.
